Corporate Guest WiFi: Visitor Access Without Opening Your Office Network
A visitor at your office needs the internet for an hour. They do not need your file server, your printer or a password that still works next month.
Corporate guest WiFi is a separate network that gives office visitors internet access without letting them reach company systems. A client, auditor or vendor signs in for a limited time, usually with a code from reception or a one-time password (OTP), and the company keeps a record of who connected.
This guide is from Wyfy Guest, a guest WiFi software company in India. It covers what an office needs, which is different from what a hotel or cafe needs. For the basics, read what guest WiFi is.
How an office differs from a cafe
A cafe wants strangers to get online quickly, and hopes to hear from them again. An office has fewer visitors, but it has more to lose:
- The network behind the WiFi matters more. Your file server, accounting system and printers sit on it.
- You usually know who is visiting. Reception can decide who gets access, so the login does not need to be self-service.
- A record is often expected. After an incident, someone will ask which visitors were on the network that day.
- Marketing is not the point. You are not building a customer list from people who came for a meeting.
Keep visitors away from company systems
Start with separation, because everything else depends on it. A visitor’s laptop can carry malware its owner doesn’t know about, so it should reach the internet and nothing else. A second WiFi name doesn’t guarantee this. Ask your IT team to confirm that the guest network can’t reach internal addresses, and test it from a visitor’s device.
Our security checklist has seven checks you can run through for your own office.
Decide how visitors get on
Offices usually choose between two methods, and many use both:
| Voucher from reception | OTP to the visitor’s phone | |
|---|---|---|
| Who controls access | Reception decides who gets a code | Anyone in WiFi range can request an OTP |
| What you record | Which code was used, and when | A verified phone number or email |
| Best for | Client meetings, auditors, interviews | Busy offices, training rooms |
Voucher codes also suit a seminar or training day, because you can create a batch for the room. See guest WiFi for events if you run those often.
Set limits that match a visit
A visitor rarely needs more than a working day. Set a session time, a device limit and a speed limit per guest, so that access ends by itself and a large download doesn’t affect the staff who share your line. Session and bandwidth limits explains each one.
Give reception only what it needs
The person issuing codes does not need to see network settings. Role-based staff access lets you limit each person to their own screens and locations, and guest phone numbers stay masked by default in Wyfy Guest. Changes to settings are recorded too, which is what an audit trail is for.
If you have more than one office
Branch offices drift apart when each one has its own router and its own password. A cloud dashboard lets you run every location from one place, with its own settings and reports, and nobody at the branch needs to keep it running.
What this does not replace
Be clear about what guest WiFi is for. Wyfy Guest manages access for visitors. It doesn’t replace the controls your IT team uses for company laptops and staff WiFi, such as directory-based sign-in or device management. It is also not legal advice: if you have questions about what records your company must keep, read about the rules in India and then ask your adviser.
Where Wyfy Guest fits
Wyfy Guest is guest WiFi software for businesses in India. Visitors sign in on a page with your company’s name on it, using a voucher or an OTP by SMS, WhatsApp or email, and you see every location from one dashboard.
If your IT team looks after the network, unmanaged guest WiFi adds the login on top. If you would rather hand that work over, managed guest WiFi covers the network too. Book a demo and we will check whether your router is compatible.
